Mobile Detailing
in Mesa.

Mesa is the oldest city we work in, and it has the oldest paint. A twenty-year-old finish needs a different approach from a two-year-old one. And treating them the same is how clear coat gets ruined.

Older paint is thinner paint

Mesa has established neighbourhoods and a lot of long-owned cars, which means we see more original paint here than anywhere else we work. That changes the job completely.

Clear coat gets thinner over its life. From oxidation, from years of sun, and from every polish it has ever had. Machine polishing removes a few microns each time. On a newer car there is plenty of margin. On a well-loved older one there might not be, and the failure mode is permanent: you burn through the clear and the panel needs repainting.

So on older vehicles we measure before we polish. A paint depth gauge tells us what we are working with, and we would rather do one careful stage than promise a mirror and take the car past the point of no return. That is part of every paint correction we do.

Single-stage, and cars that have already been resprayed

Plenty of older vehicles have no clear coat at all. The colour is the top layer. Single-stage paint behaves differently: it oxidises to a chalky film that comes off on the pad as coloured residue, and it can come up beautifully, but only with the right approach.

Resprayed panels are their own question. Aftermarket paint is often softer than factory, and it is not always the same hardness across the car. If a panel has been redone, mention it. It changes what we do to it.

Cars that sat all summer

Mesa has a large seasonal population, and a car that sits from May to October in Arizona comes back different. Dust bonds on. Tyres flat-spot. The interior develops that closed-up smell, and anything organic left in it has had four months at 140°F.

We get a lot of calls the week someone gets back. A decontamination wash and clay treatment handles what has bonded to the paint, and an interior deep clean handles the rest.

Mesa FAQs

My car is twenty years old. Is polishing it safe?
That is exactly why we gauge the paint first. A depth reading tells us how much clear coat is left, and on a thin or previously polished finish we do less rather than more. If correcting it would take the paint past what it can afford, we will say so and recommend protecting what is there instead.
What is single-stage paint and does my car have it?
Single-stage means the colour coat is the top layer, with no clear over it. It was common on older vehicles. The giveaway is coloured residue on the pad or towel when polishing. It can be brought back well, but it needs a different approach from clear coat.
I was away for the summer and the car just sat. What does it need?
Usually a decontamination wash and clay treatment for whatever has bonded to the paint, plus an interior deep clean for the stale closed-up smell. Send a photo with your quote request and we will tell you what it actually needs.
Can you fix oxidation that has already gone chalky?
Sometimes. If the oxidation is in the clear coat and there is enough thickness left, correction can bring it back. Once the clear coat has actually failed, no amount of polishing restores it and the panel needs paint. We will tell you which one you have before taking any money.
